Luke 9 

Then he said to them all, ‘If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. What does it profit them if they gain the whole world, but lose or forfeit themselves?

Questions to Ponder

Do any of us, in our relatively secure and comfortable society, know what it is really like to deny ourselves? Think of those who struggle this day with the basic necessities of life -warmth, food, security, dignity, understanding.

What do Jesus’ words mean for me – now, this day and this Lent?

 
Prayer

Lord of Lent, Lord of my life, teach me to grow in understanding of your words that I might live more to your glory each day. Amen.


Call to Action 

Watch the news with eyes and a heart of mercy. Pray for all who are mistreated and misunderstood.  Give us a contrite and understanding heart O God.
